Donnell-Mendrop tournament changes focus

For more than 25 years, an annual golf tournament has benefited a scholarship fund for Hinds Community College students provided through the Warren-Claiborne County Alumni Chapter.

In 2015, the name of the tournament was changed to the Clyde Donnell and Othel Mendrop Memorial Golf Tournament. Clyde Donnell and Othel Mendrop were driving forces for Hinds Community College in the Vicksburg community for many years. They started this golf tournament, and both were greatly involved in it until their deaths. Caroline Ratliff Mendrop, widow of Othel Mendrop, died on Dec. 31, 2020.

As a way to pay further tribute to these two fine gentlemen, a new scholarship has been established by the Hinds Community College Foundation and the Donnell and Mendrop families.

This year, proceeds from this annual golf tournament will go toward completing the endowment of the Donnell/Mendrop Endowed Scholarship.

This year’s tournament is scheduled for Sept. 15 at Clear Creek Golf Club in Bovina. For more information about this new scholarship, or the upcoming golf tournament, please contact the Hinds CC Foundation office.
