Dear Friends, It is somewhat difficult to realize that this will be my last contribution to the Hindsight publication as President. It has been my honor and privilege to serve as your President and you all mean a great deal to me.
During my 42-year tenure, your support has been the constant element that has encouraged my journey. It is virtually impossible to name the individuals and groups of people that have sustained me along the way.
Working with the thousands of dedicated employees who serve at every level and every location of Hinds has been particularly satisfying and has been one of the primary reasons I look forward to coming to the office every day. I have also been so fortunate to work for one of the best Boards of Trustees in the country. Their strong leadership has enabled the college to accomplish a great deal in terms of our growth and our ability to respond to the needs of our communities.
The college has benefitted from the continual support of the Boards of Supervisors in each of the five counties we serve: Claiborne, Copiah, Hinds, Rankin and Warren. Their loyalty to bettering their communities has allowed the college to successfully advance our mission. This demonstrated support extends to the city, state and national levels of government as well. I deeply appreciate their public service.
I’ve always said that the purpose of our community college was to serve students — all students. Whether opening doors for those who were not ready for college, those who needed a second chance or those who excelled, their home could be found at Hinds. Having seen the student body expand beyond the walls of the college, observing positive changes in the lives of our students and witnessing their many accomplishments has been a most unique and satisfying experience.
Beloved alumni, you are the heart of the Hinds family. There are so many who willingly give of your time and expect nothing in return. Your gifts and talents are invaluable. By investing in another’s future, you not only contribute to someone’s achieving a personal goal, but your influence secures a brighter tomorrow.
Last but not least, I must express my gratitude to our many donors. Creating the Foundation was one of my first goals as a new President. The phenomenal growth we’ve experienced is because you have believed in the mission of the college and the Foundation and entrusted us with your resources. Because of your generosity, the lives of many students, faculty and staff members have been forever changed.
I sincerely thank you for supporting me through these many years and for your unyielding efforts to protect the future of Hinds students for generations to come.
With sincere gratitude,
Clyde Muse, President
