Hinds Athletics hosted its first Alumni Weekend and Golf Outing, which drew 12 teams to play at Eagle Ridge Golf Course on April 8. More than $7,500 was raised to go toward projects to update athletic facilities.

Dr. Debbie Norris (1977) says she was quite the serious student throughout high school and beyond, though she still credits her Hinds experience as life-shaping and critical. Norris, associate provost and graduate dean at Mississippi College, grew up in Raymond. Among her influences was her mother, Martha Robinson, who taught business technology for years on the Raymond Campus.

Jenny Laird (2002) began her career in scientific research two decades ago cleaning storage tanks where invasive species of plants were kept for study. Since then, her career hasn’t as much grown as it has flown – by way of expansive aviation technology used by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to fulfill its civil works missions, military, emergency response and research and development missions.

Shemekia Lacy Rankin (2014) a native of Woodville and a resident of Natchez was named in a unanimous vote by the Wilkinson County School Board as the Wilkinson County School Superintendent.

Alejandro Pocasangre (2021) of Jackson, has been hired as an assistant soccer coach at East Mississippi Community College in Scooba. Pocasangre received his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management/ Teaching and Coaching at Mississippi University for Women.

Raymond native Debbie Norris (1977) of Canton, and a retired Graduate School Dean and Associate Provost from Mississippi College, was honored with Emeritus status for her significant contributions to the Christian university over her 40-year tenure there.
